During the FIVB World Congress in 2022, there were meetings held to investigate potential options for development.

Throughout the FIVB World Congress 2022, Volleyball England and the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) discussed potential future plans to enhance the visibility of the sport of volleyball in England by maybe organizing a significant competition.

The Congress was held once every other year, and its purpose was to bring together all of the national federations that were involved with the sport in order to discuss, learn, and explore methods in which they could work together to help the sport fulfill its potential. During the same time period (23-25 September), the Netherlands played host to both the CEV Congress and a meeting of NEVZA nation representatives.

Adam Walker, Chairman of Volleyball England, and Sam Jamieson, Interim CEO of Volleyball England, recently met with representatives from the FIVB and Volleyball World to discuss the possibilities of building a long-term plan to host big events in England. A previous meeting between Volleyball England and CEV President Aleksandar Borii, FIVB Head of Technical and Development Steve Tutton, and FIVB Beach Volleyball Director Yu Cao took place in Birmingham during the Commonwealth Games.

Volleyball England also took advantage of the chance to provide a presentation to other Commonwealth federations regarding the on-court and off-court achievements of the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the ‘Our Time to Shine’ plans to ensure a true legacy from these ground-breaking Games.

The resounding success of the Empowerment Fund established by the FIVB was a central topic that was discussed at length throughout the Congress. Under the Volleyball Empowerment program, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has just given their approval for the England national beach volleyball team to receive coaching support for a period of 12 months.

A high-performance coach named Kirk Pitman has been appointed by Volleyball England for a period of one year (ending on October 31, 2022 and beginning again on October 30, 2023). As part of a strategic framework established by the NF and the FIVB, the FIVB has high hopes that the allocation of this funding will have a positive effect on the overall performance of the England Beach Volleyball Teams and assist them in achieving goals that are attainable over the course of a long period of time.
