The Tajikistan senior men’s national volleyball team recently claimed their first-ever victories at the senior level by defeating Uzbekistan 3-0 and Kazakhstan 3-2 at an International Volleyball Tournament between Central Asian teams that was held at the Manezh Sports Complex in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 15-20 June.
The tournament was comprised of teams from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and other countries.
The achievements were achieved after the FIVB provided coaching help for over a year as part of its groundbreaking Volleyball Empowerment program. As part of the project, FIVB Instructor Mohammad Yousuf Sadeq from Afghanistan was given the position of head coach of the team. Since August 2021, he has been working to strengthen both the national squad and the administration of the National Federation. Since Mr. Sadeq escaped Afghanistan in May 2021, the FIVB has also been providing him with financial assistance to cover his coaching pay.
FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graca F° made the following statement:
I am overjoyed for the men’s national team of Tajikistan, for whom these results hold a great deal of significance, and I am happy for them. I am also really proud of the enormously beneficial influence that the backing of the FIVB has had, not just on our squad but also on volleyball in the country as a whole.
“In my opinion, it is times like these that demonstrate why we need to keep reinvesting the money that is made from the sport back into the sport. We are providing national teams with the resources they need to compete at the highest level and expanding the number of individuals across the world who are able to enjoy the benefits of our sport. There is no question in my mind that the Tajikistan national team will take this success and use it as motivation to push themselves to even higher levels in the years to come.
The Volleyball Empowerment project has also assisted in re-engineering the organization of the Tajikistan Volleyball Federation. Additionally, the project has assisted in building the National Federation on online systems and procedures such as VIS.
Tajikistan Volleyball Federation President Muradzoda Noderkhon said:
“I would want to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to the FIVB for granting approval to this coaching support project for our nation. This project has been very beneficial, not only from a technical and coaching perspective, but also in other aspects such as the improved structure of our National Federation and a better event organization system.” This has helped to modernize our volleyball system, and this project has been very beneficial.
The most notable results that have come from this endeavor so far are the historic victories that the Tajikistan men’s national team has achieved against Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. As President of the Tajikistan Volleyball Federation, I would like to extend my gratitude to the FIVB for the tremendous support it has provided over the years, and I look forward to continuing our collaboration in the years to come.
In addition to fostering the growth of the national team, the head coach of the national team has been assisting local coaches in expanding their understanding of the sport. For instance, he led a FIVB Level I Coaches Course, which contributed to the establishment of a solid foundation for the development of volleyball in Tajikistan in the years to come.
According to the Head Coach Mohammad Yousuf Sadeq:
“It has been a pleasure to coach the Tajikistan men’s national team and to assist in the process of turning volleyball in Tajikistan into a professional sport. The players have all improved their mental and physical capabilities, as well as their technical and tactical talents, as a result of learning a new approach to playing professional volleyball, even if it has been difficult to do so because of the nature of the sport.
“I am happy of the team for winning their first international matches, and it is apparent how much this means to them as well as to Tajikistan’s ardent volleyball fans,” the coach said. “I am proud of the team because they won their first international matches.” There is still a lot of work to be done in order to build on this achievement, despite the fact that this is a fantastic result.
The Tajikistan Volleyball Federation is currently looking to capitalize on the recent success of its men’s national team in order to acquire sponsors, continue to build and professionalize the volleyball system in the country, and further develop the technical capacity of its technical and administrative staff. These goals will be accomplished by utilizing the recent success of the men’s national team.
