There is a possibility that the already formidable Italy Men’s National Volleyball Team may soon receive more support in the form of Kamil Rychlicki.
After a request was made by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), the Italian Council of Ministers, which is the major executive arm of the Government of Italy, granted Italian citizenship to Kamil Rychlicki. This decision was made in response to the request. The player, who was originally from Poland but was born in Luxembourg, received Italian citizenship on the grounds that he “had provided remarkable services to Italy in account of the excellent successes attained in their own sport.”
Since the 2018-19 season, the switch hitter has been playing in Italy. He debuted with the Consar Ravenna shirt, and then moved on to play for Cucine Lube Civitanova, where he remained for the next two seasons after signing there in 2019-20. Rychlicki’s team was victorious in the 2019-20 Scudetto, as well as in two Italian Cups and the FIVB Club World Championship for 2019.
The 26-year-old switch hitter will begin playing for Sir Safety Conad Perugia in 2021, the same team that he helped win the Italian Cup with. It is anticipated that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) would confirm the change of sports nationality from that of Luxembourg to that of Italy. If this occurs, then Rychlicki will also be eligible for the ‘Azzurri’ after the transition time of two years has passed.
Given that one more member of the “Block Devils” will be eligible to play for Italy beginning with the upcoming season, the new status of Rychlicki is quite beneficial for Perugia as well.
