During the FIVB World Congress 2022, Volleyball England and the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) discussed possible future plans to increase the visibility of the sport of volleyball in England by possibly staging a big event.
The Congress was held once every two years, and it brought together all of the national federations that were involved with the sport in order to discuss, learn, and investigate methods in which they could collaborate to help the sport fulfill its potential.
During the same time period (23-25 September), the Netherlands played host to both the CEV Congress and a summit of NEVZA nations.
Adam Walker, Chairman of Volleyball England, and Sam Jamieson, Interim CEO of Volleyball England, recently met with representatives from the FIVB and Volleyball World to discuss the possibilities of building a long-term plan to host big events in England. Prior to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Volleyball England had a meeting with CEV President Aleksandar Borii, FIVB Head of Technical and Development Steve Tutton, and FIVB Beach Volleyball Director Yu Cao.
Volleyball England also took advantage of the opportunity to give a presentation to other Commonwealth federations about the success of the 2022 Commonwealth Games both on and off the court, as well as the plans that ‘Our Time to Shine’ has in place to ensure a genuine legacy will be left behind as a result of these ground-breaking Games.
Throughout the Congress, one of the most important topics that was discussed was the thriving Empowerment Fund. The England beach volleyball national team will receive support for beach volleyball coaching from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) for a period of one year as part of the organization’s Volleyball Empowerment program.
Volleyball England has announced the hiring of high-performance coach Kirk Pitman for a period of one year (31 October 2022 to 30 October 2023). As a component of a strategic framework that was jointly developed by the NF and the FIVB, the FIVB has high hopes that this funding will have a positive effect on the overall performance of England’s beach volleyball teams and assist them in achieving goals that are attainable over the course of a long period of time.
